275 55 20'S vs. 275 45 20's
 

Starting to like the 2012 S 86 chrome clad wheels that come standard on the SLT's and if I get the denali i may just go with those wheels vs the denali wheels. I think also those 45's might look a little better vs the 55's, 275's that is. I like the way the 285 45 22's look so the 45's might look a little better.

So what about ride quality, 55's vs 45s, shouldnt be that much of a difference if any right? I might just go with the 285 45 20's ?

Here is a photoshopped image of the 2012 chrome wheels. Vehicle had the 285 45 22 inch wheels on it so I'm thinking the tire you see is the actual 285 45 22 with the 20 inch wheel photoshopped into it. I know the 20s will be a little smaller though.

The middle number is tire width ..first is height.

Actually the first number is width in mm, the 2nd number is the percentage of height of the sidewall as compared to width and the last number is rim size.

So a 265/70/17
Is a 265mm wide tire
The sidewall height is 70% of the 265mm width 185.5mm
And 17" rim size

Also, something to keep in mind that is the truck you purchase doesn't come with the 22's and you add them. You will need to do some re-gearing to get the same off the line performance. On my first Sierra, 08 Z71, I changed the oem 17's up to a set of Denali 22's and the truck crawled. I wound up taking off the 22's and selling as I wasnt going to regear the truck- front and rear since it was a 4x4. When they are built from the factory with the larger wheels, the gear ratio is set for the larger wheels

yeah thats kind of why i sort of wanted a new truck, ordered so i could get it the way i want it and be done with it pretty much. If I decide to get a 2010 and wanted the 22's later, I would have to spend money to get that gearing done and probably would be more than I would want to spend. But the 20's dont look bad on it, i would when i need tires just probably go with a 285 45 20 instead of a 275 55 20. That's providing i will see a difference in it being a little more beefy. Not sure as the wheel will be either the denali wheel or the S86 chrome clad wheel that comes on the 2012 SLT's.
