285-70-17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on my '08 Silv
They fit with stock suspension. They have about 1/2" to spare from rubbing the fender well in the rearat about half-turn. I intend to install a RC leveling kit anyway. They provide a little higher ride, but no noticeable handling difference. I guess that's because the contact patch is bigger. Gas mileage seams a little worse right off the bat, especially around town. But it's probably not as bad as it reports because the tires are turning a little slower than the sensor is aware of at highway speeds.

I have been looking at those same tires as a replacement for the stock ones on my 2500HD. They have a very high load rating of 3750@80 which is the highest rating I have found for any 17 or 18 inch tires. I am surprised that they rub as they are only 1/2" wider than the stock tires which means they extend only 0.25" past the center-line of the rim.
The are nearly 4% larger in diameter than the stock tires so without 3.73 or lower gearing your engine may be working harder around town. It will also may a slight impact on your odometer readings which will be low by about the same 4%. Tire squirm and the added weight will hurt gas mileage and if you have a light truck the tires are not going to be anywhere near 80 PSI and you will get a lot more sidewall flexing which also reduces fuel mileage. |
They don't rub, but they are larger diameter. I replaced 265's with these. I have the 3.73 rear. But I can still tell a difference in low end power. Thanks for the info.

I'm running the Terra Grapplers :
265/65/17 on 17" MB Stryker Wheels - 2005 Silverado 1500 Ext Cab 4x2 305/70/17 On 17" XD's - 2009 Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab Z-71 with 6 inch FabTech lift. Tires ride great on both trucks. Which usually means a short life span. I've been told that they do wear quick. especially on the heavier trucks. |
