3.73 differential gears???
 
One more question from a newbie...

I purchase my truck w/15,000 miles on it. (Beautiful truck!!!! Have owned Chevys since my first one, a 1956... and this is the nicest I've ever had the opportunity to enjoy.) The original window sticker was in the glove box. It says the truck was equipped with a 3.73 rear end... at an upcharge. Who has the 3.73? What are your experiences? What was "standard"?

My first two tanks of gasoline saw mileage far above my expectation. Could the optional differential gears have some contributory effect on that??

3:73 gearing is well, my favorite. It is a great balance of low end torque, fuel economy, and hauling power. I have never had a problem with my truck, and my moms 06 Dmax has 3:73 gearing in it also. It can pump out 365 Horses, 600 ft/lbs of torque, and still maintain an average 21mpgs.

My 2007 has the 3.73 and it shows on the window sticker that gear ratio was stock or standard and I think you had to pay for 4.10s.

The 3.73's showed as a $100.00 option on the widow sticker of my '08. One of the other options was the locking differential. Perhaps the locking differential had another standard gearing and the 3.73 was an upcharge to that item.

Not a big deal. Just one of those "I wonder" things that bugs me until I find out.

Anynody know if they were gonna put the 6 speed automatic in these trcuks like they did the 09 Tahoe's?? Cuz with that you could run 4.10's or smaller to get even more torque but keep a descent MPG rate. I have seen a Tahoe run WOT on youtube and it ran pretty darn good!!

I beleive that 3:42's are stock.

3.42's are stock on the new trucks with the 6spd. you can upgrade to 3.73 through the max trailering package but i dont believe 4.10's are an option with the 6spd.

3.73 are a good all around gear. i had 3.42's on my previous 06 and they sucked. i had 3.73's on my k5 and loved them, but now that ive had my 4.10's in my new 06, id never get anything else but 4.10's again. especially if you put larger than stock tires on.

in 05 for the NBS trucks (at least for the ext cabs) 3.42 gears were standard.

Having owned a 4.6l Ford w/3.08's, you need 3.73's just to tow a boat. Now I have an '08 Silverado. To me 3.73's the bare min. I just checked the Chevy site & 3.73 is the highest numerical rearend you can get in the LT. A 4.10 is available in the LTZ pkg.
