3.73 vs 410 rearend
 
Looking at 2006 2500 and was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is any difference in fuel milage between a 3.73 and 4.10 rearends . I know either isn`t good . I`ve heard the low teens . Any help I will appreciate .

Find one with a duramax. They are better engines with more pulling power and 3:73s. 06 was a great yr for the duramax too

I was looking at a 6 0 gasser , sorry for not putting that in there . I only pull about 10 % of the time but so just wanting to hear peoples opinion on what would be best , Thanks

My uncle has an 01 6liter and he gets about 11mpg with 3:73's. He is trying to sell it because it is too much of a hog and he doesn't see any advantages over a dmax.

What makes you want a gas over a diesel engine?? As far as I'm concerned if you want a 3/4 ton truck they shouldn't even offer them with a gas.

My driveing 75 % of the time is drive any where from 1/2 up to 5 miles and cut it off unless I go to town . With a dollar a gallon difference in the gas and I know a diesel is made to run and figured I would do more damage the way I drive from one farm to the next .I have 7 tractors and a Tractor trailer so I know about them . I don`t even like to crank one up unless I`m going to use it . Would love to have a duramax but I may pulla horse trailer a couple of times a year on a long trip but go most every weekend 15-20 miles . I know the milage sucks on either of them but it will be 20-25 dollars more everytime you fill up. If I could fine a 06 or backreasonable on the duramax I would consider it . All ways been a chevy man but I looked at the new ones and I hate the interier design . I have 2000 1500 that I bought new and it does a good job but was just wanting to step up a little.

I see your situation now and I defenitely understand why you wouldn't want a diesel what with having to leave it run all he time. Because I'm so cheap in your situation I would almost keep your 1500 for your daily driver and pick up a mid nineties 2500 to pull with. I know I am failing miserably at answering your original question, but I don't know and it's not looking like anyone else has anything to say

You will get better MPG's with the 3.73's. The 4.10'sare good for towing. The only reason I would go for the 4.10 gears is if all I did was tow or if I did allot of drag racing. Or I might go with 5.73 for drag racing.

I had a 2005 2500HD 4x4 with 4:10 rear end . I got 13mpg with the stock 245/75-16 tires. When I put 265 tires on it I got 14.5 mpg (not towing or hauling anything). Now I've got a 2008 2500HD 4x4 with 3:73 gears and the 6 spd. auto tranny. The '08 doesn't feel as gutsy as the '05 and is shifting up and down all the time. Mileage on the '08 is only 12 or 13 mpg. I kinda liked the old truck better.

my son has the 06 with 6.0 liter and 4.10, he get 11 mpg around town and maybe 14 on road,

old truck will pull but it loves the fuel

I have an 02 Suburban 4x4 with the 8.1l; allison and 4:11 rear end. Around town I get 11mpg; on the highway loaded or unloaded I get 14 at 70mph; though if I push it harder or hard driving around town (hard acceleration etc) I'll drop down to 10mpg. Like scotstr said; depends on what you need the rear end for; if you don't need the 4:11/10 then get the 3:73. I like my engine/tranny combo cause it has the power of a diesel without the smoke/noise/or at this point higher fuel prices; it all runs on 87 oct gas!
