4.3L Vortec Ideas For More Power
I have a 1996 Chevy 1500 2wd with a 4.3L and want a bit more power out of it. I have looked into 5.7L swaps but don't want to go that way because of gas mileage to power ratio it isn't worth it. i am looking at getting a Hypertech Max Energy tuner for it has anybody had experiences with them? Are they any good?

I can't comment on the tuner you're thinking of, but am wondering what type of power you want. Do you want towing power, faster top end, quicker acceleration? What type of gearing do you have now? Perhaps a different rear end ratio would help? Don't forget you're talking about a 16 year old truck so spend your money wisely. Ramping up one part of your drive train will compound problems in another.

I am looking for more acceleration and maybe a bit more towing power so overall more torque. And true enough its a older truck im not looking to build a monster though, just a little bit more power off the line.

Gears, cold air intake and exhaust is bout what you may be looking for. Dont get the Hypertech, it doens't do much but advance timing very little and bump up shift points. Nelson tuning can do much more.

Does nelson make a tuner for it?
