it will be cheaper to sell your truck and buy a 4wd one. you will need a transfercase, drive shaft and a front axel which will cost a good amount of money

It would be much easier to do it like Argon said and just buy one. If you had your heart set on it and you still want your truck to be a 4X4, you could buy a 4X4 with the same wheelbase and swap the bodies (and engines if you wanted to), then put the old stuff on your old chassis and sell it. You could rip apart your current truck and replace it all with 4wd stuff but you looking at way too much fabrication and labor, I mean you'd be working on it for an eternity to get it all working properly. Plus you would be replacing the entire front end of the truck anyways so just swap bodies or just trade yours.

Solid axle kits would work so at least you could lift it real easy.

With a kit? No idea. The straight axle kits don't come with the axle (I don't think), but you can get one from a junkyard pretty cheap.

It all depends on what type of axle you want. It is not cheap. There is a lot of fabrication to do. You need to get a transfer case and a tranny for a 4x4. Are you looking for a straight axel or doing the IFS. Just check out the prices of the kits at offraodunlimited and give them a call. They will give you an estimate. They have done a lot of conversions.
