4 wheel drive clunking noise
Hello,I have a 2000 Silverado 2500 6.0Land have a clunking noise when in 4 wheel drive when I give it gas, I thought it was the front driveline but went to replace it and the teeth were fine. No signs of slipping or wear. Also, I noticed when doing this that the front drive shaft would not spin freely from the transfer case but would with the front axle. Any Ideas on what is making this LOUD noise?

RE: 4 wheel drive clunking noise
Oh yeah, I have checked the u-joints and are good. The four wheel drive works, it just makes noise, and I can feel it in the floorboards under my feet.

RE: 4 wheel drive clunking noise
It's a clunking that you can feel under your feet and hear? Does it get worse when you have the wheels turned or does it get softer? What size tires are you running? Is the truck at stock height or lifted?
You said that you checked the U-joints, did you check thehalfshaftjoints? |
RE: 4 wheel drive clunking noise
it gets a little worse when I turn but about the same. It is only when I give it good throttle. I have a stock truck with stock tires. Yes, the rubber boots look good and there is no slop. Is there a chance that actuator on the front axle is not getting the fork all the way engaged? I don't know where else to look.

RE: 4 wheel drive clunking noise
You are probably right about it being in the front diff. But I figured I would ask about the other stuff first.
Well I guess it is time for a new fornt diff!Andjust make sure that you don'tstomp onit in 4x4 for a while till it get's fixed. |

4 wheel drive clanging noise
I have a 1997 chevy suburban 4wd and while in 4wd it was making a loud clanging noise when accelerating in 4wd hi or 4wd lo. Anyways everything underneath was tight and no play. I couldn't figure it out. It has the dash 2wd 4wd hi and 4wd lo electric switch it wasn't flashing while in 4wd hi or low and you could hear an engagement sound when 4wd selected. I thought it maybe it was the front crown and pinion gear missing a tooth. I took it to the mechanic and it was the 4wd actuator! I guess it was gimped up and engaging and disengaging while in 4wd and making a horrible clanging noise. Anyways I replaced the actuator myself a few years ago (which was possibly the easiest repair ever) but the 4wd light was flashing and it wasn't engaging at that time. Anyways it cost me a fair bit more to have a mechanic diagnose and then replace the actuator but if it happens again I'll know what it is. Also I may be able to help someone else searching online for an answer. It's a fairly cheap fix to do yourself and super simple to do. About $60 from 1aauto! Hope this helps someone out.

4wd sound
hello
the sound is from transfer case , you need to replace Transfer Case Drive Chain and other items when you rebuild the transfer case |
4x4 noise
Hey there I was just wondering if you ever figured out the noise when you gave it gas in 4x4 ? My truck does the same thing and can't find the issue either
