6.0 milage

I'm not sure about the milage I'm getting on my 2500HD. I don't have any mods yet - still on factory size tires and whatever factory gears (I think they're 4.10 if I've understood right). I only pulled 13mpg highway and I just thought that seemed lower than it should be.... Any tips or thoughts?

I plan on cleaning my MAFS and I'm thinking about a TBS.

RE: 6.0 milage

All depends on how you are driving, but that sounds about right. BigTexasChevy has 4.10's in his 1500 with the 5.3 and he is getting around 14 in town.

A custom tune helps tremendously on these engines. A TBS and cleaning your MAFS will help you out a lot, as well as an air intake or just a drop-in air filter. You should also consider the free mods. (See "Tips and Tricks for Free Horsepower"). All of these mods will increase you fuel mileage. Also, try lowering or removing your tailgate. It helped me. You can also over-inflate your tires by about 5 psi to lower the amout of rolling resistance.

RE: 6.0 milage

I certainly agree! With a few mods, your truck will be a lot better on gas. Also it will open the 6.0 up some. God I wish I had a 6.0 in mine!:(

RE: 6.0 milage

I love the 6.0 - it's stronger than an ox and pulls like a mother.

I looked at the CAI's and I don't see the difference between the CAI's and the stock other than the tube is bigger and the box has a bigger opening - you're still pulling the exact same air into the motor.

Another thing I thought of is how much of a difference would it make if I switched it to an electric fan system versus the one on the motor?

RE: 6.0 milage

Summit says it gives you 1-2 MPG... I trust Summit.

RE: 6.0 milage

Don't get it twisted bro, the CAI will open your truck up. It is one of the few aftermarket mods that will give you (noticable) increases in horsepower. The CAI I put on my truck is my favorite mod thus far. Big difference in acceleration and throttle response and it sounds great. Nothing like the sound of a CAI sucking that air!

With electric fans you will also notice a difference. I'm going to be going to electric fans soon and I can't wait. Ask BigTexasChevy, he has them on his truck and it is nice! A little expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

RE: 6.0 milage

I just talked to a buddy of mine... He's got some fans off a WS6 that fit my radiator that he'll sell me for $20... WOO HOO!!!

RE: 6.0 milage

HOLY CRAP! You are going to save hundreds of dollars! I think I'm just going to go to BigTexasChevy's house and steal fans out of his truck while he his sleeping. If I have the time, I'll steal his 4.10's too!:D

MrLM7 04-10-2007 12:32 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

Heh, better off stealing the whole damn axle.... Those bearings are a bitch to install!!!

****, better off stealing the whole damn truck!:D

Hey - MrLM7's buddy - if you can see this I'll give you $40 instead of $20!

Just kidding...

Thanks for the help guys..

MrLM7 04-10-2007 12:40 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

And then put your mods on that truck...

RE: 6.0 milage

Does anyone know a shop that would do a good job on retuning my truck around the OKC- or what if i just got one of chips?

MrLM7 04-10-2007 12:49 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

Hah, Hah... those fans wouldn't fit yours, anyway... You have the big (good) radiator. OKC? I'm guessing Kansas City?

RE: 6.0 milage

MrLM7, that was exactly what I was thinking!:D

Superddd, your best option is to do a mail in tuner, such as PCM4LESS. I got the Superchip Flashpaq Performance tuner for my truck and although I'm happy with the increase in power, I wish I would have took my time and listen to other people about the mail in tuner. What I do like about my Flashpaq is that I increased my rev limiter, eliminated my 100mph cutoff speed, and calibrated my speedo to match my wheel size. Horsepower and torque was noticable, but not worth the money spent.

The only benefit is you can read and clear DTCs...

SC_Chevy_Lover 04-10-2007 12:53 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

Yep, but you can always go to Advance Auto and get it done for free.

Or Auto Zone...

RE: 6.0 milage

Yep, their too!

RE: 6.0 milage

Oklahoma City- how long would they have my PCM if I sent it in? Do they have a trade out deal? I was looking at PCM for my Grand Prix GT and I can buy a reprogramed 'extreme' PCM and they'll send it to me and charge me a core charge until they get my old PCM in.

MrLM7 04-10-2007 01:07 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

Go to PCMforless.com and check it out.

LM7 - I'm a country boy - I can make any fan work with a little baling wire and some duck tape

Yeah, I think we all are here.

SC_Chevy_Lover 04-10-2007 01:11 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

Now that is funny! However, I just talked to LM7's buddy and he is going to sell them to me for 60!:D

RE: 6.0 milage

lol..... I still have his tranny...... Anyone want a 4500 stall converter???

superddd 04-10-2007 01:16 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

Has anyone used PCMforless? They seem like a pretty good deal but I'm hesitant about putting a PCM on my truck without a tech there or something like that. I know what I'm doing for the most part, but if I screw something up, I'm screwed.

MrLM7 04-10-2007 01:18 AM

RE: 6.0 milage

They offer free tech support and instructions.

RE: 6.0 milage

Superdad, my dad had a 6.0 a couple of years back. The entire time he had it his milage was only 13 with the wind at his back. There was power but he couldn't go past a gas station. He tried everything on it and nothing would bring the milage up. He kept that truck for less then a year and got a duramax.
