700r4 problem

Have an 87 silverado 5.7 4wd used for plowing. When cold, trans will go into drive and reverse,however, when warm it will not engage in either. If I let it cool down for a while, I can get it in gear.
It has a 700r4,and np208case. Any help or suggestions to point me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Time for rebuild or replacement trans.

Are you sure its not the transfer case slipping into neutral?

dumb question, Have you checked all your fluid levels?
