8.1 Liter Question
 

I'm thinking about trading down trucks and want need some advise.I currently have a 03 2500HD 4x4 cc with the 6.0 4:10 gears. The truck is paid for and only has 63000 miles, however, I only get around 10mpg in town and 8.5 mpg with my slide in camper and trailer in tow on the interstate. I go camping maybe 2 to three times a year but planing on going more often in the future, other than the camping trips its used to pull a lawn trailer about 2 days a week. The 6.0 does ok with the camper until I get into hills/mountains and then frequent downshifting occurs with high rpms. I've found a truck, same as mine except it is an 01 with 84000 miles with the 8.1 3:73 gears with a sale price of 14000. Would this make sense to switch trucks? Is there much difference in mpg's and power between the two powertrains? If I did get it I would just sell my truck and maybe pocket a little cash to boot.Thoughts?.....Thanks!!:confused:

I think your towing will improve but I also think your non-towing gas milage will drop. Bigger and higher HP engines just use more gas. It may come down to a wash. The difference may be what you sell your for.
