82 gm 454 convert to 4x4

hey everyone i was wondering if anyone has done a 2wd to 4x4 conversion in a 82 gm 4d long box??? i wouldn't usually do this but they truck has only 99,000kms on it and its been in the family since new. any info would be great as im a ford guy with a gm in the yard tryin to make it work haha.

I wouldn't even attempt it. It is WAY too much money and work to be worth it and you would be better off finding a 4x4 truck

We have done an opposite conversion 4WD to 2WD on a fullsize blazer. They only made 2WD (K-5 Body) in 1981 and 1982. We had a very clean 1990 K-5 and wanted it 2WD. The easiest way to do it that we found was to find an entire spare truck. In this case we found (after a long search) a 1982 2WD that was an absolute mess, but had a good frame. We swapped the entire body (after taking the messed up 82 body off and spending about 2 weeks detailing the 2WD rolling chassis). It ended up being easier than we thought. GM was nice enough to keep all mounting bolts in the same exact place. It bolted right up!!!! We then sold the 4WD roller to some guys for a swamp buggy. They paid us more for that then we paid for the entire 2WD truck. So we just has ALOT of labor in the swap. It's funny because this truck was sold about 7 years ago and it recently popped up on Craigslist by the same guy that we sold it to, but for alot more money.
So if I were deadset on doing the swap I would either look for a beat up truck like yours that is 4WD and either swap cabs and beds or pull both front caps and get to swapping. I am sure there will be a need for a very good welder and slight fabrication, but it can be done! Don't forget to take pics along the way and post them. Good Luck! Hope this helps!
