9 second truck

I was looking on some stuff online tonight, and it appears for my truck @ 6000 lbs, it will take 1600+ HP to run 9 sec in the quarter mile. What am I gonna do. I will have to take all the panels, bed, seats, hood, transfercase, front differential, etc. to get it done. ANy better info?

That's pretty stupid. I read in HotRod magazine a few years ago where a guy turbocharged a Silverado(6.0Liter I think) and was running 10s at the track. Granted your truck is a lot heavier but with the proper setup you can do it. Although whether or not it's practical to do that with your truck is a different story all together.

If you look online, search "horsepower calculator", some will give you the option to put in weight and time. This will give you the needed power. There used to be a better site available, but I cannot find it now.
As far as running my truck with turbo or supercharger, yes that is practical, but I need more info to decide the best for me. The new twin turbo on the ford diesels sounds like a good idea, but expensive.

RE: 9 second truck

What I meant by practical was I don't know that you would wanna make your full size 4 wheel drive pickup a 9 second truck. That would be awesome, but I know I wouldn't be trying to do that to mine until I had it payed off. Plus I doubt the 4 wheel drive train can handle that much power.

As far as the power calculator, that is such a ricer program. That's what high school kids do. A lot more is to be included to decide drag strip times. Your certainly not gonna run a 9 second pass with the tires you have on there now. You'd need GOOD slicks, higher diff gears, probably would have to upgrade your tranny to handle all that extra power, yada yada yada....:D

I think i figured I could run the 1/4 in 18.2 with a stock v6. so it must be way off! I figured I would run in the low 8's minimum with my 4.3 liter beast!

Sound like you guys are right. There used to be this great program that you could enter alot of info on your truck and it would tell you the approx. 1/4 mile time and seemed pretty accurate. Of course I can no longer find it. Have you guys seen the video on youtube of the guy on the dragstrip in a 4wd silverado? He races it in 4wd and smokes all 4 tires off the line. It is pretty cool. He has a supercharger though. And probably breaks parts like mad.

Are you talking about the black SS or is it a regular 4X4? I've seen the SS doing the all wheel drive burnout and raping a couple of trucks. That puts a chessher cat grin on my face!

It's an STS tubo system pushing 15 lbs of boost. Gooogle STS turbo for info and video. Yes, the guy is driving a Z71 and launches in 4wd.

That is not the one I was thinking of, but impressive none the less. The one I was talking about is in daylight, right lane, and litteraly smokes the tires off the line.

There is another video on the same site during the day, left lane, running a trans am

This looks similar to the one ai was talking about. I saw it a several months ago, so this may be it.

How much power can the factory drivetrain in our trucks handle?

I just asked. The trannysdon't like awd burnouts

smoke20 08-25-2007 10:38 AM

RE: 9 second truck

Is it the trannys, or the transfer cases. It seems the tranfer cases would take the most abuse, but I guess the trannys could slip more.
