95 GMC Sierra - Manual Transmission - Backup Light Switch
Thanks in advance for reading this, and hoping somebody can help.
Here's the situation: I have a 95 Sierra with a 5 speed manual transmission. My backup lights were not working properly. They were kind of flickering depending on how I position the gear shift. I replaced the switch and now they don't work at all. The switch, not installed but with the "ball" depressed, turns on the light. It's almost like I need a switch that is just a fraction of an inch longer. Have any of you encountered this? Are there any fixes (other than wiring a toggle switch inside the cab) that will help me avoid dropping the tranny and figuring out which mechanism activates the switch? Thanks! (I've searched high and low for an answer, but no luck) |
I am not familiar with your specific switch but I have seen these type switches installed with elongated or slightly larger mounting holes. These holes allow you to adjust the position of the switch in relation to the activating part. You leave the mounting screws loose, move the switch until it is working correctly, tighten it down. I hope this helps.

Thanks Jim. I have never seen those switches but they make a lot of sense. I'm going to see if I can interchange such a beast based on the thread size and depth. The hunt is on.
