95 silverado swapping to an older motor

Hey all, new to this site and already need some advice. Got a 95 Silverado that originally had a 305 TBI. Pulled the motor already due to smoking and lost of power. I have access to a 305 engine that came out of a van, carbureted though. Will this engine work. I know I should prob. spend money on a new crate engine but I already have this engine and it will prob. be a temporary engine.

Main concerns are: will the intake bolt up, will the pulleys, alternators, and everything else work also? I assume I will have to block off the fuel pump, other then that is there anything else that is going to have to be changed out.
Thanks for any help, the new guy Jody K

I dont think any of it will bolt right up its a 9 year difference youll be better off with a LS swap LS6 would be real nice or a crate motor id say if you have the funds do it right the first time if not youll be doing twice the work and either way its going to cost you some money even if it dose all bolt up fine theirs still harness issues unless you keep the carb setup

the motor itself will bolt up along with all the accessories as long as your original 305 was a non vortec model. and you would have to block off the fuel pump i had to do all this in my 350 swap. but you would be happier with a rebuilt motor in the least bit. but i understand working under a budget so if your original 305 in non vortec you have everything you need for the swap.

Thanks for all the advice. Still decinding what to do. I have antoher project going on also, converting a firebird 1985 fuel injected v6 to a carb. 305, so most time and money is going there.

Back to the silverado, i know in 87 the heads on chevy engines changed. not sure if that is all chevy blocks or not. since this other engine is an 86 is this going to effect the bolt pattern on the intake, on my firebird i am using an older intake on a 87 block andiamhaving to drill the holes bigger on the intake to get it to line up to the heads.

Also, does it matter that the original motor was a TBI and this one is just a carb.

Thanks in advance, Jody K
