95silveradotraction

hey everybody,

I have a 1995 silverado 350 2WD with 183,000 miles. Im having trouble telling whether it has posi, limited slip, or neither. I dont know if the diff. fluid is bad, and i dont want to take it off untill i know whether its posi or not. is there any way to find out?
Thanks,
Jake

Put the rear on jack stands and start the truck and put in drive. If only your right wheel turns its then it is not positrac. Locked positrac will spin both wheels no matter what.

yeah open your glove box and look for the code G80 I believe they kept the same code in the full sizes. That code says that it has the "posi" limited slip differential. Then go from there, remember it will only lock up to like 30 mph

oh and as far as taking the rear cover off and draining the fluid it doesn't take but 30 min total if you don't know what you are doing. No need to buy a new gasket for the differential either just scrape it clean smear on some silicone gasket maker, bolt it on and put like 2 qts of 80-90w oil. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to change the fluid regardless if your having problems or not. oh and the oil in there will probably smell like **** too, if you haven't noticed that already, its normal
