98 C1500 clunking sound from rear ?

new to the group ..hello guys
my 98 C1500 4.3 auto trans truck makes an intermittent clunking sound when I start off slowly from a stop , ... and occasionally when I slow just at the last minute before a complete stop.
It sounds to me like it is coming from the rear of the truck but I guess anything in the drivetrain could telegraph to the rear end ..
the truck seems to drive well and I don't notice much at regular speeds ..?
anyone have any experiences similar or with ideas ?
thanks again
Larry

It sounds weird but make sure that your spare is tight...been there done that! If it is check to make sure your shocks are tight and that the rubber grommets are still OK.

If that checks, you may need to slide the drive shaft out of the trans and grease the front splines. If they get sticky you will hear it sliding in and out.

I had this done to me one time. Come to find out it was the nuts to the u clamps that hold the leaf springs down to the top of the axle. Somehow they came loose. Just a thought for u to check for. It could be alot of other things too like slip yoke, u-joints, bad rear end, etc.
