ABS Light- No ABS

Okay, so my ABS light came on last week and stays on whenever I'm in drive. It goes off when I'm in reverse, then when I put it back in drive it'll stay off until I press the brake, when it will make a funny noise and then quit and come back on. THE ABS DOES NOT WORK on either front wheel.

I replaced the entire hub assembly on the passenger side in the fall, so I'm thinking it's a drivers side wheel speed sensor. Would this cause the whole system to go kaput?

There are quite a few things that cause the ABS system to shut down. I think the idea is that if it's not working right, it is better for it to not work at all.

What I did when my light came on was go buy a ABS tester (Amazon). As you probably know, the normal code readers that are sold for DIYers will not read ABS codes. The codes lead me right to the problem (the brain died) and I was able to fix it (had it rebuilt) without too much expense and immediately recovered the cost of the tester plus a lot more.

Hope yours is an easy solution, as well. :)

I think I'm going to run down to the dealer and see if they'll run the test for me... The truck is for sale so I don't really want to go through the expense of purchasing a code reader if I don't need one.

Unfortunately, it's quite annoying to have teh pedal kick back at me when I go from reverse to drive, so I pulled the ABS fuse... now when I stop and turn at the same time I can hear a strange rotational sound coming from the front left... which leads me to believe it's the entire hub assembly, which hasn't been replaced on the drivers side. It would also explain why my 4wd is so loud when doing above 25mph

Hey, would that ABS tester happened to be this:

I need one, my vehicle is plagued with ABS issues. I also had to pull the fuse.

The one I bought (in June 2009) was the Actron CP9449 Brake System (ABS) Diagnostic Scan Tool. It was $130. then...I see it is $92.69, now.

There may be a better choice, but this one worked great for me. I noticed some people complained that when they got it, their car was not covered?

PS I noticed the Actron CP9580 AutoScanner Plus OBD II, CAN & ABS Scan Tool came out in 2010. It does more than the 9449 (like read OBD II codes) and at $150. might be a good choice if you don't have a OBD II reader.
I ended up paying $250. to get both types...so they are getting better and cheaper!
