Adjusting parking brake

I just put in new rear pads. But the parking brake won't hold if I'm on a hill or any small incline. How do I adjust my parking brake?

Thanks,
Tom

According to my Chilton manual it says turn the adjuster screw until the shoe lining just drags on the braking surface inside the disc. Then remove the disc and back off the adjuster screw until the the shoe lining does not drag when the disc is installed and turned. This sounds to me like you will need to put the disc on and off maybe several times until you get the right adjustment.

Not at all what I was hoping. Sounds kinda involved considing I don't have the right equipment to revome the caliper, for now. I broke two sockets trying. Thanks for the info.

Parking brake

SweeperForce,

You will have to remove the calipher, then the rotor/hub. There is a small
"c" shaped shoe, that wears and it usually get the drum.

Remove the holddown clip on the shoe and then you can thread the shoe over the axle flange.

You can buy just one of these shoes. They come one per box. You can check the adjustment by putting the drum over the shoe with no slack., using the adjuster.

It not that hard, you may want to get an impact socket, they are a lot toughter. I had to use a break over bar with a cheater to break the bolts. They have bolt lock on them. This can also be loosened with a propane torch.

I hope this is clear enough to help you do this job.

Good luck,

:)
