allen plug came out of transfer case?

I have a 2004 chevy silverado 1500 4x4, the" allen plug" came out of the right side of the transfer case while I was driving! can anyone tell me what this plug is for? Thank you

Without a picture showing exactly where it came out, my guess would be either a drain or fill plug
