alternator

Default alternator

How do I tell what amperge my alternator is putting out my truck is a 2000 silverado I do not have power windows.

You will not be able to measure amperage capacity if that is what you are looking for. With an Ampmeter you can measure what is currently being drawn (no pun intended). Some alternators will list thier rating on the back by the post or plug in your case. Generally speaking ~ 62 amps peak.

you'd need an ammeter...but something to try...get a voltmeter and hook to your battery,key off...should be 12.6 volts or so....start er up,and it should rise to about 14.2 if your alt is working

thanks for the replys I just wanted to know how many amps it is rated at I want to put a good stereo system in. I may upgrade the alternator to a 130 amp.
