Another crazy thought about PCMs or flashpaks
Hunt4game and I were talking the other day and we thought that maybe you could use your tow/haul button and reprogram that function for performance and then reprogram the standard driving mode for economy and better gas mileage. It's along the same principle as a staged chip, but it's still using the factory setup........
Is the completely retarded or is there something to it?

I can tell you from the little bit of messing around I have done with my diablo predator you can adjust the shift points in tow haul as well as regular drive mode. I don't know if you can other performance curves in tow haul mode. I believe however that your synopsis or theory is what the diablo uses though. I will have to post this up on the diablo site and ask for some tech support on this. Good question. I have only had like a day or two to play with my tuner. I can report on it like next monday or tuesday though cuz I will be home and I'm driving my badboy up to Oregon.
I know that with a reporogram, one option is to chaneg your tow haul button to a race button. But they say not to tow in this new race configuration. I want to see if another button could be added for race, and I could keep the tow haul and normal modes.
07 - do you have the tuner and the puck or just the tuner?
I'm not really looking for race performance - just better milage in standard mode and a stronger pull in performance.
Thanks for you guys help.

No I don't have the power puck. Just the flash programmer. Just went and read on the website it doesn't appear that you can do as discussed in your first post. Also the power puck is for diesel. I just have a 4.8L in my truck. It gives decent performance for being a small v8 though. I will have to get back on the first question.
Yes Westers does offer the race button, the button allows the truck to use different programming for the transmission normally to keep it out of overdrive for towing, having it set for a race button makes it so it will hold longer before it shifts, shift harder, and kick down easier, with your truckset up for the race button youDO NOT want to tow with it as the race button will make your stock tranny wear out faster than it is already going to and towing with it willmake a performance tranny necessary pretty quickly. As far as MPG goes we tuned my truck, as well as many others, for 100% performance with the race button and 91 octane, after the tune I gained two MPG then put bigger wheels and tires and lost one MPG leaving me with an average of 18 to 181/2, I thought this was pretty good considering I drive like every stoplight is a drag race and I am just generally hard on the truck.
No I haven't taken it yet, seems I cannot get anything done on my own stuff or funthings I want to do with everything else I have going on. The mods I have are: K&N FIPKII, Grannatelly MAF descreened, Edlebrock shorty headers, 3" catback w/ 50 series Flowmaster tip hidden, throttle body bypass, all on high beams, painted dash, hidden antenna, 18" wheels w/255-55-18 Goodrich KDW IIs, and of course custom tunned PCM. I think that is all of it.
