Auto headlight sensor
 

Whenever my headlight switch is in the automatic position, the lights are always on, even during the day.

I own a 2002 1500 silverado extended cab.

Any advice on how to fix is appreciated.

Do you have stuff laying on the dash? In the center of the dash is senor that detects sunlight. If it is covered it will make your lights turn on. If not then the only way to tell is to check with a scanner and see if the sensor is sensing light all the time. The only other option is a short somewhere.

Nothing on the dash. I even pulled out the dash and pulled the sensor. I put a VOM meter across the sensor and got no reading. However, since it's a sensor, not sure if I would have any resistance. I also checked with a code reader, no codes.

Have you checked the headlight switch?

Try disconnecting the bcm connector c1 and see if the lights turn off. The BCM is located behind the knee bolster cover on the drivers side just right of the steering column it will have three connectors going into it. If they don't then try removing the drl light relay and see if the lights go out. The relay is found in the underhood fuse block.

What is the BCM and drl ?? Are you talking about the computer module directly below the steering column that has 3 large connectors. ??

Bcm is the body control module. Drl are daytime running lights which come on while the vehicle is running. They are always on and then the headlights come on either when switched on or in the auto function when the sensor determines they need activated

Yes Alan7407 the BCM is the one you are talking about. the day time running lights are controlled through the BCM but the lights have a separate relay as well in the underhood fuse block.
