Bed Rail Weight Capacity

Looking to get a heavy weight bed topper which sits on the bed rails. This is what the topper manufacturer says:

"A word of caution on Chevy trucks; in the past 2-3 years we have heard of the bed rails buckling, welds cracking from the weight of the topper. We have also been informed that Chevy was aware of it and offered a $1200 fix kit. You may want to inquire with your dealer if that issue has been corrected on the 2008 models."

Does anyone know anything about this? I called the dealer and they were clueless. Can anyone help?

RE: Bed Rail Weight Capacity

i have heard of this... its usually from hauling around snowmobiles in the winter time, the cold weater makes the metal stiffer and the slightest bump can ruin a box. i would suggest going with a trailer rather than this! especially on chevs

good luck if you do decide to do it!
