Belt noise

I did this to myself.....when I changed the T-stat I got coolant on the belt and at least one pulley. I rinsed them before start up with clean water. Occasionally I get a hampster wheel sound under the hood and I know it's the belt. I am hesitant to use a belt dressing or spray random products on the belt for fear I could damage it. Any recommended products or suggestions?

the BEST thing is a packy of silicone grease that comes in brake pad boxes....

holding a bar of soap against the belt as its runninghelps sometimes...but BE CAREFUL!

My Uncle Nine Fingers advises against holding the soap.

Thanks, Argon.

Don't do the dressing, I tried and made a mess. Mine makes noise too especially when its cold. Same deal, it was fine until thermostat change and I covered the street in coolant, lol. Bye bye stray kitty cats! (yes I drained the rad first but appartently that wasn't enough).

Dressing or lubricants are a bandaid. If they work fine, but you will probably have to keep reapplying them every few days. You can try taking the belt off and wiping it clean with a rag soaked in mineral spirits (paint thinner). Wipe all pulleys real good also. This may or may not work, because the belt is somewhat porous and antifreeze is hard to clean off of anything. Whenever you put a new belt on, be sure to clean the pulleys real good first.
