Best Oil for MPG
I'm about to change the oil in my silverado. What's the best oil out there for getting the most mpgs? Thanks.

what weight have you been using and what type of climate do you live in

As for the weight, I have no clue. Don't know much about oil. That's why I'm asking. |
as long as your not using a heavy weight oil like 20w-50 you should be fine on mpgs. The 4.3 probly calls for 5w-30 or 10w-30. check your owners manual and it will guide you in the right direction. However the difference in mpgs on those oils will be so small that it really wont be noticeable. If it were mine i would run 10w-30

if your motor does not have excess miles, 75K or more and has received proper regular oil changes, i would use 10w30 full synthetic oil of a major brand like valvoline, etc:
hands down full synthetic oil has better lube properties, but in older high mileage engines it can cause oil leaks as full synthetic oil has smaller molecules than dino oil. |
Well it's an 06 with about 85,000 miles on it. Has been wrecked if that accounts for anything.

It is colder . Chevy trucks like 5w-30 .
I tried 10w-30 no cigar, started getting that lifter peck. |
Used several in the past but AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is what I run in everything. Expensive but run it 15k total-----7500 new filter and add a quart.
There are only 3 oils availaible in the us that are true synthetic in origin and Amsoil is one. Lot of oils are synthetic by the USG definition but are only a % synthetic. |
For those miles I would put 10w-30 in it. It really doesn't matter what kind or brand just aslong as its not that really cheap stuff or the stuff that has paraffin wax in it like pennzoil or quaker state.
