Default Big cap vs small cap distributor

So I built my own tbi system for my 79cj with an 88 350 tbi system. I built the harness and have been flashing my own chips for the amc360. I just dropped an 82 350 in it last week and have been retuning for that motor.

It has the large cap disy which is only a 4pin module and I needed to use the 8pin to make it all work right. I rewired the 4 pin and it works alright but I am still having an issue at about 3k. It sounds like im gaining speed and runs good but im really not moving any faster.

It also overheats on the highway at the higher rpms making me think its timing. The fuel all looks good on the data that I'm logging.

My question is this. What do I have to do to put the small cap 8pin disy in the older motor? I tried already before I put the motor in BUT the hole on the shaft was to small to slide over the oil pump shaft. Are there any secrets to making that work? Can I put the shaft from the tbi 350 in the older 350?

No I have a 88 tbi harness installed in the Jeep. I think what my issue may be now that I think of it was we were in a hurry so I just tried to line the rotor on the small cap disy up with the large cap disy and slide it in and no go. I bet the notch in the disy shafts arent in the same place so I'd have to take a long screwdriver and turn the oil pump some to get it to line up correctly. I just tried to set it in real quick and no go so I threw the other one back in.

It seems to be advancing alright now. I still need to check the total timing but it is overheating above 2k. On the highway or in the woods. Gonna change the tstat and go from there.
