Default Body Moulding

I want to remove the black side moulding of my 98 Sierra and the badging off of the tailgate? Is it just double sided tape holding everything on, or are there some clips along the way? Also, are there any holes under the moulding or badges that would require welding to complete the smoother look?

i believe its double sided foamy kind of tape but not sure lmc catalog shows it as just a strip that you need to glue on so maybe its glue
but the 1500 chevy emblem is clip onto the trim the trim may be glued pretty good on there

I have an 06 Silverado, and on mine it was just double sided tape. I think its the same with yours. a little advice, use heat! I live in central CA and it gets mighty hot here. I bought my truck in May, and by July it gets over 100 degrees everyday here, so I waited till I got off work, when it was over 100 degrees out side and pulled the molding off. it will leave a little residue, but I went down to the parts house and bought some bug and tar remover and the residue came right off. however, my brother pulled the badges off his Silverado it it was a little different. I think they used the glue that holds the space shuttle together on those cause it was a mess. it left a thick residue behind. I have yet to pull my badges off because of that. bein an older truck the residue may be stuck a bit harder....

I did the same thing many years ago back before i had the brains to stay away from Ford. I took the moulding off with a heat gun and took care of the residue with a pinstripe removal tool. But there were holes under the logos on the fender. That is why i wanna know about my GMC. I hate to start taking the stuff off and come across the same situation.

My logo fell off on my 92 and I had to get a new one. It just sticks in with two holes in the plastic only... There's no way it was deep enough to go into the metal

Just did one and yes it is just double sided tape. Like already mentioned heat will be your best friend here. I used a heat gun even though it was a nice hot day and the passenger side of the truck which was facing the sun still was easier to remove. You will be left with some tape residue, but with some help from your favorite remover it shouldn't be an issue. I have always used a little gasoline on a rag to remove the residue followed up by a good wash and wax. I never have had an issue. The truck I just did was 11 years old and once done you could not tell it ever had moldings. Good luck and take some pictures.

What about the GMC and Sierra badges on the tailgate? Are there any allignment holes or anything underneath them? On the front bumper, are there any clips or holes under that strip of black moulding?

The tailgate is smooth under, but the bumper will have holes behind the impact strip.
