Car Cover?
I just got my Sierra back from the paint and body shop from a terrible accident, what i was wondering is if its ok for me to start using a car cover over the fresh paint??? I just recently bought a cover at carscover.com but wasnt sure if i should use it just yet...i dont want to scratch the paint. Help?
you definitely want to hold off on using that cover for a while because fresh paint needs time to "outgas" as the solvents evaporate. most body shops recommend waiting at least 30 to 90 days before covering or waxing, otherwise you risk trapping those gases and ending up with bubbles or a hazy finish.
even with a high-quality cover, putting it on too early can also lead to the fabric sticking to the soft paint or leaving permanent imprints. my cousin ran into this exact issue when he was looking for covers for nissan models in his collection; he learned the hard way that patience is key to letting that clear coat fully harden.

I would be careful with fresh paint.
Most body shops say you should wait before using a car cover. Fresh paint needs time to cure. Even if it feels dry, it can still be soft under the surface.
A cover can trap dust between the cover and the paint. When the wind moves the cover, it can rub the paint. That can leave marks.
I would call the body shop that did the work and ask how long they want you to wait. Many shops say 30 to 60 days before waxing or covering.
If you must use the cover:
Make sure the car is clean
Make sure the cover is clean inside
Do not put it on a dirty car
Avoid windy days
If you have a garage, that is better than a cover for now.
I would wait until the paint is fully cured before using the cover full time.
