Changing Door Handle

Well Im new to the site and need some help. My mom has a 2000 Suburban that she is getting ready to trade in and I am wanting to use her rear door handles on my truck. My truck is a 2003 but it doesnt have the painted handles like hers does. Also will the rear hatch handle work where my tailgate handle is? I am mainly worried about how hard it is to remove the door panels and if there is any special tools I need. Thanks, Kyle.

I found that it is a lot of work to change out the door handles. I bought paintable door hadle over lays (just like the chrome ones) and they worked out great and look great. They didnt have them on their website but automotivegirl.com had them available.

Don't go to that site. She is just soliciting. Ask Argon he will probably know what the answer is to your question. The only thing to get from the post above is that it is kind of a pain to change out door handles. You will need a trim tool. It looks like a big flat pry tool with a slot in the center for the plastic snaps.

The panels are easy...the handles are a pain due to the glass being in the way..but not tooooo bad.

The door panels "slide up" on those models...no clips...just hooks that go in a pocket

Not soliciting.... I was referred to them by Brite Chrome the manufacturer for the over lays. Im just the type of person that values my time over taking off the door panel and messing around with the door handle. I guess Imthe rare type that would rather pay a small price for something to be done easily rather than waste a few hours.

but at least the actual handles arent glued in place like overlays, a little more solid construction. if you ask me i think its worth the effort but ive changed door handles before and it really doesnt take but 5-10 minutes to do. the challenge of the job is getting the rods to slide into place properly, once again its not THAT time consuming.

Yeah, I thought around here we liked the feeling of spending four hours working on something to save the $20 a new part could have cost us. It's called being a man. ;)

Sorry BEERFOX sounded like you were soliciting. We tend to get those often in here. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
