changing gear ratios

I've got a 3.23 gear ratio in my truck and it's not givin me the take off i want. i can't spin tires even with a brake stand. I was looking into changing to a 3.73 ratio. any suggestions?

RE: changing gear ratios

If you don't care about gas mpg then go with 4.10's they will launch really good. the 4.8 and the 20" wheels are killing you too (weight from the wheels and less power out of the 4.8) also do you just have the generic tune from the predator on or have you dialed it in? that can be a difference also.

if you are looking to not lose mpg then the 3.73 will work fine.

also remember that the 06 has alot of torque management and if you dont remove some or all most likely you wont be able to spin the tires. i know i cant with my 06 right now with 3.42 gears. the downside is without a shift kit or a built 4l60e you will burn up the transmission being abusive to it.

good luck.

RE: changing gear ratios

Get a Nelson or Wheatley Tune on your PCM. You can also get a Predator programmer. Whichever you do, you can remove/reduce the torque management which cuts the torque to the rear wheels when you floor it. I have mine reduced so low that I can't help but spin tire even when I am hitting the gas lightly (especially when it rains).

You will get better MPG and launches with the torque management reduced. BUT the more you reduce/remove, and the more you burn the tires off, the less life you'll get out of the transmission. So if you drive sane most of the time you are golden.
