Check engine light 06 V-6 silverado
Check engine light comes on...will eventually go off and stay off for several weeks. I don't remember the code but had something to do with coolant or thermostat. Suggestions?
|
I would take it and have it scanned again - Autozone does it for free. Let us know what the code is at that point. If it is the coolant temperature sensor you will want to replace it. I was left stranded one time because of one of those.

Oh and welcome to the forum!
|
The code was P0128
|
It could be and probably is a thermostat issue.
The code sets when the coolant temp fails to reach a calibrated temp in a calibrated amount of time so the thermostat being stuck open is the most common culprit. |
Remove the thermostat from the truck. Place it in boiling water with a thermometer in the pot, and see at what temperature it "opens" at.

If the thermostat is the problem then you are in luck. It could be alot worse. A thermostat is very easy to replace, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks.. will check it out.
