chip options?

im thinking about getting a chip for my truck. i have an 87 and the only ones i can find are made by Jet. they have a stage 1 and a stage 2, but when i talked to the guy on the phone he said the only way to go for my setup is with a $400 custom chip. is there anything better out there?

RE: chip options?

I have a Jet chip on my Camaro with a CAI and exhaust system and it seams to be quite a bit faster than a stock Z28. However pretty much everyone I've talked to highly recommends against the Jet chips. Everyone says it doesn't make hardly any difference and you can spend $300 in many speed shops will reflash your stock ECU. The reflash is supposed to be much better compared to buying a chip/module for your vehicle.

you can not flash that 87...really,there's not a whole lot you can do to that 87 "electronic' wise...the pcm controls fuel and timing to some degree...all a chip will do is dump more fuel in the TBI...

my dad talked to a guy from a shop in cali about a custom chip and a fuel pressure regulator. we boughta new CAI and are thinking about a carb set-up. custom would be the only way to get everything right, wouldnt it?

Wow, Jet told me the same thing when I asked about Stage 1 vs Stage 2 on my '95 truck. Maybe I will check out other options . . .
