Comon problems in 2001 1500
Hey fellas, just bought a 2001 silverado 1500 Z71 a few months ago. I'm already dealing with the slip yoke TSB and the crappy ride on the freeway, but what other problems can I expect in the future? Lets get thread going listing on the common problems chevy trucks from thes era experience. I'm trying to figure out what i can reasonably expect to pay in maintenance every year on average. Thanks

There isa recall in effect for crappy tailgate cables... Other than that, I don't have anything. 71,500 miles on the original brakes, alternator, starter, battery, new tires at 61,000 miles....
You will go through the bulbs for your little daytime running lights like you have never friggin' seen. The other bulbs will last okay, but those blow out every time I turn around. Better off leavin' them out. |

the drl bulbs need new sockets...
The steering rattle is probably the biggest complaint.. I bet the E-brake does not work keep a fresh fuel filter on it |

Bought my 2001 z71 LTin March 2003from a 60 yearold local manat the time it had 52,000 miles on it.The first year the following things went wrong,(1)Anti-lock brake front wheel sensor $325.00,(2)cold knock sensor $400.00,(3)driver side axle seal which i fixed myself at the cost of $80,(4)emergency brakes quit working and now at 104,000 miles the same axle seal is leaking again and yes i did do the repair right the first time.GM later had a recall on the anti-lock wheel sensor and i was repaid the $325.Over all i love the truck and this is mythird z71.My up grades include 40 series flowmasters,77 series k&n cold air intake, clear corner lights,brush/grill guard, tail light guards,285/75/16 BFG Mud tires.

And the hits just keep on coming!!! I got a was talking to OnStar in truck yesterday and they said that there was a new recall with my year of truck, 2001 Chevy Silverado Ext. Cab, 4x4LT. So I called my GM dealership today and they said the recall is for a problem with tailgate cables. They said it should only take them about 15 minutes to change them and of course it is free because it is a recall. So, all 2001 owners, I would contact your GM dealerships and see if your truck is affected. When you call, have your VIN number at hand. Actually all you need is the last 5 of your VIN and they can see if your truck has the problem. Take care ya'll!
