Corvette Servo
question about the servo.i am having trans prob mine is not goig into od.was thinkng on trying to replace the servo, thinkng it could be leaking around the seal but after reading this not sure now,but my question is ,doesnt the 4 apply piston in the servo apply on the band then the troque converter locks up. it was my understanding that the servo was for 2 and 4 and not 2 and 3 gear.i could be wrong but just from what i have read and others told me...
my truck has 115,000 miles....I have a brand new filter, seal, gasket and high mileage fluid.
I bought the corvette servo, and the combo

and
4th gear servo, cover combo

i want to know if i need anything else - a shop out here said these things break gears and reverse.
Please let me know

Nice Topic, I just assumed everyone knew about this. I reccomend this upgrade to everyones 700r4/4L60 or 4L60-E, and also agree with Timber, its not only to burn rubber, in fact that is not the real purpose. It is indeed to prolong the life of transmission, and keep it running cooler by having less slippage between shifts. But No, its not to extend the life of bands. The low/reverse band is only applied in Reverse and you do not shift gears in reverse since its a single speed, and the manual 1-2 band is only applied when in manually selected 1st or 2nd gear, not when OD is selected and the transmission is being shifted automatically. At any rate, its a no brainer and everyone should be like Nike and Just Do It. Its a well worthwhile inexpensive upgrade that anyone with a little mechanical ability can do themselves. Of course I take no responsibility if you can't handle it yourself.
Ok, I finally installed my vette servo adn 4th gear apply servo.
On my way home it would not shift into overdrive....hmmm
Well the Sonnax 4th gear apply servo came with the new black seal and a washer....Well I went back to box adn found the washer.
So look at parts break down, and the washer goes on the pin just before the 4th gear apply piston and cap.
Can anyone explain why this little washer would make a difference?
Do I need to drain tranny to remove cap to install washer?
Do I need to disconnect battery adn allow computer to reset so that the shift points can reset?

Went back sunday, removed the servo cover, installed the washer, test drove it and all gears worked just fine.
So 2nd gear scratch when in tow / haul mode....since it is a 4x4 I think 2nd gear scratch is not important.
I have a k&n filter in the stock intake....thinkin bout gettin the full intake kit.
Any opinions...K&N or other brand.
What else to make this truck better?

Well Autozone sells the cold air intake system off the shelf for bout $149. Its a Spectre brand which will work just as good as a K&N set up but costs less. What year is ur truck?
My 98 GMC shifts from 1 to 2 quick and hard enough to throw you into the seat after about 10 miles or more on the freeway. But when its cold or just cruising around town it has a slow soft shift. Would the Corvette servos fix this problem, or do I possibly have something else going on in my trans?
