ok, just got the truck a '96 k1500 as I stated before. I have driven 90 miles and the gas guage is reading as full. I did 'overfill' it, because it was between E and 1/4 (premium gas) and I filled the rest of the tank with 87 octane. (25 point something gallons- I stopped the pump before it stopped itself).

Would that be normal? To go 90 miles + and not have the guage move? Also, the tachometer doesn't work so well, it'll jump up once in a while, but nothing more.

My 98 used to travel about 100 miles on full before even moving. that is if I topped it off as much as I could. That was about two years ago, before I put on bigger tires and all the other crap the has since killed my milage!

 

How many total miles did you get out of a full tank before you had to refill?

i used to have a GMC Jimmy that did the same thing. Drive 80 miles or something and the fuel gauge would still say full, but a few more miles later the gauge would go down like it should. Im pretty sure its just because the tank is extremely full and the device in the tank that works the gauge does not recognize the first few gallons of fuel being used...but it will start working correctly soon- and you will be sad when you see how fast it goes down.

I have a 97' k1500. My fuel gauge goes well over the full mark. It'll take it probably around 100 miles before itgetsback down tothe full mark, then it really starts to suck it down (about 16mpg). Can't help you with the tach, mine has no problems.

 

Yeah I drove around a little more today and the guage is at 3/4 now. Thanks for the comfort guys lol.

my 93' did the same thing. I could go 100-150 miles and the guage would not move, then it would drop suddenly. I just started using the trip meter to guage milage and filled it up at around 315 miles with 33" tires. Also be careful when nearly empty, as the guage falls quickly at empty as well.

i usually get right at 400 miles out of my 91 which has a 33 gallon tnak i beleive i get round 11 mpg
