Custome wheels

Iput 17" pacer chrome wheels on my 2006 siearra with the same factury tires. It developed a shimmy and shake when brakes applied. is this do to the new wheels . the steeler told me it was, they turnd all 4 rotors but said, This is the first and last time, do to the wheels cousing the problem. If This is the case is there a set of aftermarket rotors out, that are heavy duty and can take the 4X4 driving that the truck should be able to withstand naturally. are is the steeler full of sh**(if so please advice thanks.)

Is it doing this only when you brake or all the time when your driving? If it only does it when you brake and they actually turned the rotors then something else is wrong besides rotors. If it is doing it all the time I think either you bought a damaged/bent wheel or one of your tires has an imperfection in it(could be belt seperating ortires worn out incorrectly due to alignment). If you can get the truck up on a lift or even jack it up in your driveway, spin the tires and watch the rims on the inside and outside to make sure they aren't bent. The faster you can spin them the better chance you have of seeing the problem.

It only did it when aplying brakes now that they turnd the rotors it has stoped. But what I am wnting to know is the new wheels what caused the rotors to worp. Will wheels worp rotors?

they most likely warped from improper torque on the lug nuts..

RE: Custome wheels

What? How would that cause rotors to warp? Not arguing just never heard this before. Argon could you shed light on the subject?

06 im pretty sure its drum at least my 05 is drum in the back. I think chevy went back to drums on the 1500 in 05.

RE: Custome wheels

What??? Why would they have done that? Is it cheaper to make them with rear drums? I know my 03 has 4 wheel disc brakes.

RE: Custome wheels

Dont have a clue uch be cheaper that is a question for argon maybe he can tell us why.

I belive that the reason GM went back to drum brakes versus rotor brakes, is for the handling. Especially, with load in the back of the truck, a drum brake can handle and stop better. The pressure applied to the brakes is evenly distributed and stop better. My dad has an '03 Sierra with the rotor brakes in the rear. I myself have the new '07 style, which has drum brakes. I feel the braking is a lot more better in my truck. Not, really cause it has bigger calipers in the front.
