dashboard cluster
 

I think my dashboard cluster is going out, no gauges work, abs light is on.
where can i get a cluster other than dealer??? or any thoughts on this
problem........2006 chevrolet silverado 1500

Possibly a salvage yard ???? -- The big ones have a national locator system.

Would it be a good idea to use a salvage yard cluster, it might have the same issues I've got now, but I will check into it.

You can get one from a salvage yard. Keep in mind, the milage is stored in the cluster, so whatever the milage was on the salvaged car will be the milage displayed when you put the cluster in your truck. (Could cause problems with registration if the salvage cluster has a lot less miles)

Also, changing the cluster may mess with the computer system and you won't be able to start the truck. Than happened to me when I put a salvaged cluster in my girlfriends Pontiac Sunfire. Got the new one in, everything put back together, and the car wouldn't start. Had to put the old one back in and take it to the dealer so they could put the new cluster in and reset the computer.

Instrument Cluster Replacement
 

I had to have mine replaced after only 52K miles.. GMC had issued a bullletin honoring a full replacement if the vehicle had less than 70K miles. I got mine at done with NO cost, absolutly FREE! I would check to see if they are still using the same cluster as I had in my 2003 Silverado 6.0 Crewcab and see if you can get it replaced by GMC. I do have the paperwork to support my claim so, if you need some additional info let me know I'll be glad to assist. Good Luck!

03-05 model years only on the bulletin. Goto a dealer and have them run your vin for recalls or pm me and I can do it.

Condition

Some customers of all 2003-2004 model year and certain U.S. 2005 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles have reported that one or more of the instrument panel (IP) cluster gauges stick, flutter, or become inoperative. This may cause inaccurate readings, including the speedometer and fuel gauge.
Special Coverage Adjustment

This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 7 years or 70,000 miles (110,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

Dealers are to replace the instrument panel cluster after the condition has been verified. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

For verified failures between 70,001 miles (110,001 km) and 80,000 miles (130,000 km) on U.S. vehicles, dealers are to provide the customer with an instrument panel cluster (IPC) only. Any additional costs, including labor to replace the instrument panel cluster, will be the responsibility of the customer. Dealers are responsible for the return of the customer's IPC back to the Electronic Service Center.

For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after September 28, 2007 for 2003-2004 model year vehicles, and March 23, 2009 for 2005 model year vehicles, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to September 28, 2007 for 2003-2004 model year vehicles, or March 23, 2009 for 2005 model year vehicles, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

does anyone know how to contact chevy to get a price quote on a new cluster?

Call the parts department. Also you can check ebay. I know a lot of guys are buying th clusters out of the SSs and Crewcabs for teh looks and temp gauge and they have all been plug n play. Like mentioned earlier the mileage is stored in the cluster's memory, so you would ahve 2 choices. Reflash the cluster or live with it. But check for a recall first. And I had the same paperwork for the cluster recall. I do believe it was for trucks ranging in a 7 year period or X number of miles. My trck was an 04 so the papers covered teh cluster all the way up till 2010 depending on mileage also.

Just call your local chevy dealer to get a quote or get online and do some research. If you can find the part # its pretty easy to compare prices online. Look at ebay or at chevy parts
