Dashboard Cluster Malfunction \ 03 Silverado

All of the gauges in the dashboard instrument cluster have suddenly stopped working. Any chance this might just be a fuse? I already disconnected the battery hoping it might reset itself but, it didn't. Just looking for other suggestions or possibilities of what might cause this to happen. Thanks for any and all replies. skoot61

They ALL stopped at once? Any of the lights on the cluster work? Normally, we'd point out the known problems with the stepper motors but that usually starts with just a single gauge having strange behavior, not with all of them at once. So perhaps a corroded connection on the back of the cluster? There are several YouTube videos on how to get at the cluster. And there are lots of cluster repair folks on ebay, etc. that can repair the clusters for reasonable amounts (including swapping the stepper motors).

All gauges stopped working at once on my 03 silverado at around 80,000 miles which proved to be a bad cluster. I am having the same problem with all guages again at 160,000 miles. When i first start the truck nothing works but sometimes randomely after the truck gets warm they will start working again. Some people have had issues with individual gauges not working or sticking but mine was all gauges at once. Sometimes you can hoot and hollar to GM and they will replace it good will... just a thought.

That sounds more like a bad connection or cold solder joint than bad stepper motors.

Dashboard Update: I again disconnected the battery and wire brushed all the connections. Battery was reconnected and again no display. Then, over night a miracle happened. I got in the truck the next day, started it up and all the dash display's were working again. Whatever happened I hope it continues. Skoot61

Cool. I hope the cluster isn't bad as they aren't cheap. As i mentioned earlier though... mine would work fine and all the sudden all gauges would stop working, usually at start up. Sometimes they would come back on after things warmed up (2-5 minutes or so) but it seems quite random. Good luck.

Most folks wouldn't buy a new cluster. For stepper motors, you can replace them yourself if you don't mind using a soldering iron (you can get all 6 motors for around $32 on ebay). If you aren't brave, I've seen repair service in the $50-$75 range.

I know they are not cheap... This dash cluster is already a replacement from when they issued a Service Bulletin for cluster malfunctions. The dealer quoted it would cost $650.00 if I were paying for it.
