Default Dimmer switch problem 03 Silverado

My dimmer switch (the adjustable wheel that dims/brightens the dashboard and such lights) goes haywire at night. It will go completely out, and then flash on and off then go to the medium adjustment and then out and such. There is no real pattern on what it does, it just goes in and out and such and is really a pain. Any idea on how to fix it? Its and 03 silverado 1/2 ton 4x4 if that matters at all! its really annoying at night when it goes out and I have no clue how fast im going.

thanks

sounds like a short in the switch or the plug is loose.....I would pull it and check it out

Do i just pop off that trim that surrounds the dash? And then there a bolts holding in the dimmer? A short would make sense, since when I hit some bumps it usually goes crazy

Yes remove the bezel that goes all the way around the cluster, radio, and the switch your taking out. The switch can be removed from there. Does your truck have an alarm? Most installers will use the wire right behind the switch to make the lights outside flash when the alarm is armed/disarmed. Good luck!

It does have an alarm but it only works if you do some complicated thing with the locks and stuff. But I'll try it out, thanks!
