Disable Auto door locks

I have a 2010 Silverado 4x4 REGULAR CAB. The automatic door locks are driving me crazy. They even locked my keys in the cab. The reason I capitalized the regular cab because the manual does not show an option to do anything about the locks with the regular cab. Is there a way of disabling the automatic locking???? I would like to be able to keep to doors unlocked until I push down on the lock switch, like in the old days. I seem to be pushing down on the unlock switch all the time to be sure the door does not lock with me out of the vehicle and the windows up.

Look at the Auto Door Lock and Auto Door Unlock settings. I am not sure if you can completely turn it off but you may find a combination of settings that will prevent you from locking yourself out. If I read it correctly you cannot lock yourself out with the door lock switch with the key in the ignition unless something is wrong with the system. I have mine set to unlock all doors when I put it in Park. Also I see not difference in body styles, Reg., Extended, or Crew cabs.

Disable auto door locks

I think I am out of luck. My cab does NOT have the DIC buttons. (Driver Information Center) where the manual says you can change door lock preferences. From what I read, the option to cancel automatic door locking is not even listed if I had the buttons. This is just one of the features I hate. Has anyone tried to look in the back of the seat of their regular cab for the jack at night. Can't see a thing because the dome lights are so far to the front. As to the auto locks I guess I will just have to live with hoping I always remember to push the unlock switch when I get out, and have to when someone wants to get in or out of the passenger door. UGH! GM has taken control as soon as we get into the vehicle - if we like it or not!

Pretty sure the dealer can program the bcm "per customer request" to disable this feature. All the way back to 2005 model year.

A dealer can disable the Auto Door Lock feature, if they are willing to do so. Your driver side door will not lock if your key is in the ignition. Leave them laying on the seat, or whatever, and you're SOL.

Just went to dealer. Yes, they can disable by reprogramming the BCM. They have to purchase software from GM - not cheap but it was done.

Why not add the "DIC" to your truck... its plug and play! Then next time you can change your own settings plus you get the extra functions of the DIC!

The DIC would not have helped since I wanted to disable the auto door lock. Its only options, by the manual, were to lock when shift out of park and to lock at vehicle speed. I wanted them to lock WHEN I DECIDE TO LOCK THE DOORS. And I did not want to worry about the delay door lock locking my truck when I get out with the keys left on the seat.
I did not realize the DIC was a plug and play option if I had wanted it installed.

Trying to purchase panel and DIC buttons

I just took delivery of a 2011 GMC Sierra All-Terrain SLE 1500 Crew Cab with 4.8L VORTEC.

Having problems trying to purchase a DIC panel and buttons. Dealer keeps ordering left dash panel that will not accommodate the AWD selector switch. The All-Terrain model needs to change out a dash panel to the right of the steering wheel.

Perhaps it is NOT available after delivery! Ponderous indeed.
