RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
that's pretty much what this is doing. in theory, if you get a good seal you will have ram air.

Cant wait to see them!!

RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
sounds good. Mounting the "intake" peice would be difficult for me since I do hit a good bit of mud and water. So Ill be thinking on where I could put it to where air will get in but water wont.

RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
her they are. when i started this project, i had high hopes and for 28.00 it was worth the time but I didn't get to do it exactly how i wanted because i lacked a few tools. but here goes:
here is they way i was running the intake before: here is the bottom of my stock air box. swiss cheese style:D I ran the dryer duct, 3.5 inches, down to the front bumper and attached it to a 90 degree duct/scoop. the scoop is just zip tied to the opening behind the tow hooks for testing on the locations. RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
nice job.
If I did it like that, Id add some type of screen or filter onto one side of the dryer hose. Just me though. |
RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
Part 2
as you can see the filter i have is huge mongess!! I had to buy a french drain elbow to fit it inside. as you can see it was a tight fit and it bent the filter just a little bit. i felt it necessary to munt it back wards and open the solid end so i could get a better seal. there is about a 1/8" gap around the open end of the filter. RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
Part 3
here is the assembly well.....assembled! test number one was good i can feel the power increase but it is not a supercharger. overall i am pleased with the results but i wil be testing better locations for the intake scoopover the next couple of weeks and of course gas mileage. this was kind of a pain because of the oversized filter i had but i was able to make it work.I am not too thrilled with all the bendsI had to make with the dryerhose so i will be addressing that as well. RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
dang, that is truly a "ram air"!
Lemmie know how that feels (power) and sounds. |
RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
Looks Freaking awesome man good thinking with the drain thing. I wonder if you could get a T instead of a elbow and have dual intake on both sides of the filter.
Theres so much room with that v6 twin turbos would look real good in that dog house. |
RE: DIY RAM AIR/ COLD AIR
Oh yeah did youre exhaust get any quieter from what ive read its a noticeable difference. I was also thinking about using a 2 liter bottle and cutting the top of to the size of the duck and the bottom off. I know it sounds kind of redneck but you can always paint it to. That way you can shape it a little and kind of force more air into the duck.
