Do bigger tires need better shocks?

I will get my leveling kit installed next week. My dilemma is what wheel/tire package. Installer suggests 285-65-on my stock 18s or 305-55-on new 20 inchers. Dilemma: Do I need better shocks for the 305-55-20 package. Installer says no. My buddies say yes to handle the weight increase. What do you think?

Shockes need to be changed when you want more travel or you change the terrain that you will primarily be driving on.

you wont notice a real difference in sticking with the shocks you have now. thats what a leveling kit is for;

a customer such as yourself wanted to put a little bit more of a lift and to put bigger tires on to give it a more aggressive look with out have to spend a bunch of money on shocks and other components for lifts.

i sell them (at work) like girlscouts sell cookies like probably1 out of 5 people who call in order a leveling kit, i talk to people all the time who have it installedas well as i have one on my truck, even though mine was only astrut spacer and my friendgot a 3" on his 07 f150, and another guy i work with has one on his 05 sierra with like 33's. you dont needdifferent shocks.

what leveling kit did you go with and how much was it?

I have a BDS 2 inch combination strut spacer/coil pre-load system. They explained to me what the coil pre-load meant, but I didn't get it all. I think it helps the ride. Lift plus alignment installed is around $ 500. I didn't get an itemized bill yet. I'm also having a single in dual out exhaust installed at the same time. They suggest a flowmaster 50 series instead of a 40 for my 2008 silverado.
