dying when hot out side
 

I have a 2001 silverado 4.3 quad cab 2 whwwl drive..When the truck gets hot, (no over heating) it dies. could there be a problem with the charcol vaper canister or the perge valve..Thanks John. P.S. I have changed a lot of parts to include the fuel line,fuel pump, filter,temp sensor plugs, wires,

I think you'll find your ignition control module to be bad(if it has one... not sure on that year).

My friend mechanic who does his best work on foregion cars says we have good spark, and when the truck cools totally off it starts right up, so when the truck gets warm and it get s hot outside it acts like a vapor lock issue...Thanks

That's what'll happen when an ignition module goes bad. After it gets good and hot the car will either start running like crap(miss firing and loses power) or it'll actually just cut off totally and it won't run until it cools back off. I would look into it atleast. Like I said I don't know if it has one cause I know a 98 Chevy with a 350 doesn't have one... but it may be different.

I SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING..I PERSONALLY HAVE NO CLUE, BUT MY FRIEND SAYS IT IS FUEL RELATED LIKE THE PUMP GETS HOT THEN NO PRESSURE...i HAVE A NEW OEM FUEL PUMP

does the innition module send a signal to the fuel pump? would it then cause the truck to shut down if the module were causing thfuel pump to shut down? When the truck shuts down and fully cools down then it cranks back up.Yesterday the truck sputtered, today the truck ran fine but whwn I turned it off it wouldn't re start...John

Get a fuel pressure tester from any auto parts store and hook up to it so that you can monitor the fuel pressure numbers while it sits idleing. Write the numbers down if they seem to change at all up to the point where it cuts off. Don't know what the fuel pressure is supposed to be on that engine but on the newer V8s it's supposed to be between 50-60psi at idle... my truck idles at 48psi and runs fine so there are exceptions to the rule.

My mechanic friend has one, we will do that, what about my last question...Do I have a ignition module, and if I do does it send a signal to the fuel pump?

yes,that v-6 has an ignition module..so does the 98 72 spoke of...

no,it does not power up the pump.

if your getting spark WHILE ITS DEAD,follow the fuel pressure WHILE ITS DEAD.....

also,many have burnt connections where the harness plugs into the tank,so replacing the pump may not cure all.
