Engine Light

Ok. So it seems like every time I get an oil change my engine light comes on. Since I have a programmer I ran the diagnostic and it spit out this code: P0446 : Evaporative Emission control system Vent control circuit
The first time I just tightened the gas cap and reset the code. But now that it has happened again. I am starting to get a little worried. Any help would be greatly appreciated

You just gotta love it. There is a code for everything in these computerized engines. Anyway, there is usually three main causes for this code. One, is the gas cap is not working properly. Since you have already tightened it, we can pretty much abolish this one. Two, the purge solenoid has failed. If this is this case, you're going to have to replace the purge valve. Finally, the canister is plugged and not working effeciently.

You were smart to tightened the gas cap and reset the code, for this is the first step in eleminating the problem. Most times in my experience, if this doesn't solve the problem, the only way to find the diagnosis is to take it in and get it examined by a ASE technician. You can also check for damaged hoses around the purge solenoid. I tell ya man, trying to find the problem with this code is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. Try everything on your part, but if you can't find anything significant, take it in to get seen. ASE technicians can usually find the exact problem in a matter of minutes, because they have all the sophisticated toys. Hope this helps ya bro.

Thanks man for the quick reply. I'll check the hoses and then take it in.

No problem bro! I hope you can find the problem. Like I said before, if it wasn't the gas cap, Lord knows what the problem could be. Good luck and let me know if you need any more advice.

Turned out to be a loose hose. Everything is fine now. appreciate the help. What it comes down to is that whenever I get my oil changed they end up bumping the hose some how and that is why it goes of whenever I get the oil changed.

Excellent news bro!! I'm glad to hear it was something simple. Tell your mechanic to stop bumping the damn hoses!! :D Take it easy and I'll talk to you later.
