Engine Oil Level Sensor?

2005 silverado 2wd. 5.3 lit. ext. cab. 63,000 mi.

I'm only about 500 miles overdue for an oil change on my truck so i checked the oil level last night for the hell of it and was really low. My truck has always told me to check the oil level if it is low and it never warned me or anything, my oil life says 47% and i dont change my oil from that reading, i've just been broke and lazy.

Question is: Why isn't my truck telling me the oil is low? Could the Oil level sensor be bad or what?

How low was it? My experience is the light doesn't come on until you're at least a qt low. So, I wouldn't say the sensor is bad... Maybe someone else has better advice.

RE: Engine Oil Level Sensor?

Sounds legit. It might be pressure based and the cooler temps opt for higher pressure in the crank case. That might be why it hasn't come on (yet). I wouldn't worry about it unless the oil was at the "ADD" or "MIN" mark because that is where the oil level becomes dangerously low and if the light doesn't come on after that then, yeah something went bad.
