engine overheat protection question

It's listed as standard equipment on my truck. How does it work? I've heard of a system that shuts down certain cylinders in overheat situations in order to help cool it down, is that what it has? I'm just trying to get to know the technical side of my truck.

thanks

RE: engine overheat protection question

Your right, your truck has a built in limp home mode should you have a coolant failure. Computer monitors engine temp and switches between the banks of cylinders. It pumps in air without fuel or spark to keep the engine temp down. Not really mentioned alot as it hrdly ever happens, nice to know its there though!
