Exhaust Recommendation
Hey guys Newbie here... Before I ask the Q, yes I did a search. It just gets too many hits to be useful...
Anyway, I have an '02 with the 5.3L and want to upgrade the exhaust to something that sounds aggressive, is a little louder than stock and thats it... Any suggestions out there? Sean |
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
I'd go with a flowmaster dual cat-backsystem. What ever you do stay away from Summit Racing brand exhaust. They are the cheapest and it shows in crappy sound and quality. I made that mistake :(. Someone with insane knowledge on the subjectwill be here shortly to help you...lol

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Im running flowmaster exhaust with 40 series muffler. Its got a good sound to it, not to loud, but you can hear it. Flowmaster also makes one louder, the super 44 which is pretty damn loud. But if your looking for something thats got a good sound to it but isnt that loud, id recommend the 40 series.

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
i have the magnaflow dual catback system. in combo with the k&n cold air intake, it has a low rumble flowmaster doesnt have. its not too loud, but not exactly quiet either.

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
haha sorry dude.
ive got friends that have flowmaster 40's, some even with the 44's i just dont like them, they dont sound the same. |
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
I've got mine running out the side in front of the back right tire and I assure you it doesn't sound like your buddies.;) Don't know why but it is quite a bit louder than most of the Silverados with Flowmasters around here. I still need to get headers though... uncork it a bit.

RollingThunders guide to the $13 redneck Exhaust system.
Needed Equipment; Cut-off Tool Welder Tape Measure 1. Measure Length of muffler plus 4 inches. 2. Go to Exhaust shop and have them cut you a piece of pipe that lenght, also have them flare the ends for you. 3. Cut Muffler out. 4. Weld in pipe. Sounds GREAT!!!! |

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
I have heard chevys around here with gibson and they arent really even close to the sound of flowmaster, the closest thing ive heard to my 40's are magnaflow, and i still dont thing its much of a difference at all. My truck has a nice rumble just idling, and can hear it driving, but not so much on the highway which i like.

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Im all about going with flowmaster. I have the 40 series. Good deep idle, you can defenatlly hear it when you step on it and it mellows out when freeway speeds are reached for a nice comfortable ride.
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
What are the louder ones? 44s?
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
44s are the loudest flows other than the 10 series
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
k, thanks!
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
I had flowmaster 50 series single in/ dual out installed last month. It really rumbles !!!
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Flowmaster 40 single in dual out all the way baby!!!!!!!
havent heard the 44 but the 40 sounds good. could be a little louderat idle and low low rpms but dont want to give up that great flowmaster tone for some rice burner sound or something. have a good one. |
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Thanks for the replies guys. A guy I know suggested Gibson. One reply said they werent that great. But they advertise their performance side swept exhaust as being quiet but aggressive. I'm just afraid the flowmaster 40 will be too loud. Arent the 70's quieter or something like that? Anybody running them? I know I'm trying to have my cake and eat it too....
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
the 50 series isnt as loud as the 40 series. i was unimpressed with it on my k5 but if you dont want to loud i would suggest it to you.

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
I have the Gibson Super Truck and it sounds great! It exits out the side of the truck just in front of the passenger rear wheel. So far, i haven't seen anyone in my area with a setup like this and I constantly get complements from other truck owners on the sound. The only complaints are from my neighbors when I fire up my truck at 6AM!

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Hey Mudder69 you going to get in in the truck of the moth?
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
hmmm? I haven't considered it. I guess if I get some off-road pics, I might enter. When's the entry deadline?
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Dont know about the deadline yet but you can still post some pic here if you want https://www.truckforums.com/m_35471/tm.htm

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Cool, thanks rxsteven. I just got a pic up...sorry its a poser pic.

RE: Exhaust Recommendation
Hey guys, just following up. I got a new catback installed. The shop steered me away from the flowmaster because of the ~2000 rpm resonant drone. Instead he put in a cherrybomb turbo muffler with dual pipes out. Its actually fairly quietbut sounds really nice. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for.
|
RE: Exhaust Recommendation
glad you got what you were looking for, congrats man
