Default frnot rotors

Just a simple question. My buddy has a 2005 GMC Sierra Z71. It is his 1st 4X4. He wants to turn his front rotors, because it has a groove cut into it. So with this being his 1st 4X4 the would like to know, because he heard, does he need a specail tool to remove/ instal the rotors from the CV shafts?

as far as I know the only "special" tool you need is the axle nut socket, which is like a 32mm-38mm somewhere in that range..........if you have an Oreillys or Autozone around they rent those tools.
