Headers

Im looking into getting some headers for my truck, but my dad has given me this huge talk about how they ruin the engine because of quick cooling caused by the new headers. Supposedly in his theory it causes rapid contraction and expansion of the block cutting its life short. Is this true, or is he full of $hit? Im looking at the pacesetters at 220$.

Also, on my 01' 5.3 do i have an "air injection pump"? Its listed for with and without.

I had a pair of pace setters that went bad on me pretty quick with in the year that i bought them. If i were you i would spend a little more money and get a better pair. But then again there are some people that swear by pace setter.

As for the quick cooling and the air injection pump i have no idea.

I have never heard of pacesetter lasting more than 1-2 years before they rust out. Save your money and get some edlebrocks or the like. You get what you pay for, and mine were only @ $300, so your only talking $80 more. Mine still look new after 1 year. As far as teh headers causing problems with the block, they will not. You will have no engine issues from headers. Just don't bitch at your dad or you may not have a truck anymore. Ha!!

RE: Headers

I posted up a thread about headers a while back. Use the search feature and you'll find it. Ultimately I found after talking to about 20 different people who actually bought short tube headers that they won't produce any power gains at all. They look good but that's pretty much it. I also talked to atleast 2-3 people who told me they're short tube pacesetter headers actually caused them to lose power and they took them off and threw them away after a few days.

If you'll go on fullsizechevy.comthe headers topic is much more debated on there than it is here and you can learn a lot. Pretty much the only good idea is to install some good quality long tube headers on there but they're so expensive that they aren't worth it for the power gain.

Your bestbang for your buckwill be to buy a programmer or get a custom tune.

RE: Headers

I disagree, i gained decent topend power with my short tube headers. My truck is fast has hell above 2500 rpm, much faster than it was before the headers.

Yeah well I'm not really attacking short tubes, I'm just referring to what 15-20 people told me their outcome was. Apparantly thefactory exhaust manifolds are designed for the most optimum flow possible which is why atleast most people don't notice any gains whatsoever from shorties.

I fought and fought what all my research on shorties told me for atleast 3 weeks cause I wanted headers on my truck real bad but ultimately it's just not worth the cost and labor.

I put on some JBA short tube headers and did notice some gains. I would do it all over again. Charger is right though from the respect of the factory manifolds they are designed for some excellent flow.

RE: Headers

My edelbrock shortie headers gave me some real good top end and an agressive deeper tone edelbrock makes a great pair of headers!!!
