Default Heater Core Replacement

I have a 97 K1500 and the heater core is leaking and spilling radiator fluid in to the passenger side of the truck. Does anybody know how to remove the heater core and replace it without taking the dash off? Or know how to take the HVAC box out? Thanks

the core CAN be removed by taking the lower pan off the box...but the recomended way is to pull the dash and remoive the box

I unscrewed all of the lower pan screws but cant figure out how to get the whole lower pan off. It seems to be connected to the firewall. Any suggestions?

make sure ALL the screws are out..1 is close to impossible...over near the hump...between the box and the firewall..another in the center, recessed in that hole..

there is also a drain boot (if its not fallen off) outside pointing down you need to slip off

I already had mine off when I replaced the cabin filter, I had to use two little universals and a lot of patience. But after I got it out I just left it out. How bad is it after the pan is removed?

Argon: Did you see my other post? My heater isn't very hot but its not the blend door. Should I flush the system out first, or just repalce the core?

that 97 is completely diffrrent than your 99 with cabin filters...your core CAN NOT be done without box removal.

your core..check both hoses gong into it under the hood..are they both hot?..1 cool,1 warm?

Somebody once told me that putting a 180 or 160 degree t-stat in would sometimes make the heaters take longer to heat up and not produce as warm of air. Not saying thats the problem but its an option I think or at least from the info Ive gotten!
